THe obvious problem with that is how I end the chapters then... (Imagine it as a book)

Page X
bablablhabhalblah blah

Page Y
Chapter Z: Something clever
Nyeh nyeh nyeh.

I think at most, all I can do is a sub-caption below each chapter that represents the character's thoughts (From the point of view told) But honestly, if your main concern is switching POV in the middle of a chapter, Chapter 13 is the only time I intend on doing that, and maybe chapter 27 =P

Is something wrong, Hutch? o.o I don't mean to be condescending or anything, I'm just stating how the idea doesn't work Sad I would totally do it, but it's just...oh well, it doesn't matter. Chapter 14 should be up by tonight, just need to edit some really rough points and maybe get a few facts straight (at least).

I had meant it in a more complimenting way than it had come out as...though you did seem a little condescending. I was tired and half asleep when i posted that, don't take much from it...

Here is what I had meant to post:

"Just keep making awesome stories"

...I had gotten distracted by RoosterTeeth (any of you guys should watch Red Vs. Blue, don't use YouTube, watch it on this Website. It is much better quality on the official site) RT is coming out with another freaking awesome Season...As a heads-up, the first season is a bit slow, but once you get through that it gets much better

Chapter Fourteen: An Explosive Entry Into Life.

Ah, bloody hell…

It’s hard for me to tell what happens after our escape from the White Coats…simply because nothing eventful happened. I do recall some interesting moments that happened along the way as the 21st century approached. Our group was stranded in Britain, home to the White Coats and my own home. We ended up heading to the same slums I lived in for the first years of my life. Somehow, my home had not been torn down, nor was anyone living in it miraculously.

As I re-entered my past life, an ancient neighbor of mine warned in a heavy accent, “That place is cursed. The family used to live der disappeared one day, and people reckon same thing happened to the previous owners, too.” He caught his tongue, continuing, “But what am I even saying? We don’t even own this wretched hell-hole.”

I replied with an accent I had almost forgotten, “Much obliged, kind sir. But I happen to be a part of the family you speak of.” Alex gave me a glare, which I knew he only wore because I couldn’t look at me apathetically with outsiders around.

“Never knew they had a daughter.”

“They did. We had to move away for some time; my father was under suspicion that we were being pursued. Sadly…I was the only one who survived.” I could tell Lee and Mark weren’t at ease hearing the lies I made about the truth.

“Mmm…shame. I really feel for your loss…My wife left not to long ago. Hope she’s doing alright.”

I said weakly, “I’m awfully sorry.”

He boasted, “No need to live in the past, though! We all have our health and such. Speaking of which, care to share your age and name?”

Alright, I was born in 1910…Well, Arthur was. It’s 1937…That must mean it’d be reasonable that I’m… He asked, “You alright there?”

I smile, “Sorry, it took me some time to remember my age is all. With all the travels my family made, I barely kept track of time. I’m seventeen and my name is Art—” I coughed. “Artemis.” Alex stopped glaring at me at this point, entering the poor excuse I once called home.

“A beautiful name. Your mother would be proud of you right now. Living on despite the burdens you hold.” I looked down, thinking about Haley. Funny, how I already cared about a complete stranger more than my own two parents. Probably because Haley wouldn’t sell me off to survive. The man exclaimed, “Pardon me, but I’ve completely forgotten my manners! The name’s Richard.” Of course… “If it’s not too much, may I know what’s wrong with—”

Lee interrupted, “Oh, don’t mind him. He’s very defensive for Artemis’ sake. After the lost of her family and all. His name’s Lex, and you could call him our foster parent. You see…the three of us our all orphans.” Nice thinking. He smiled, “I’m not from around these parts, for obvious reasons.”

Richard glowered, “Japanese or Chinese?”

“Chinese.”

“Oh, that’s perfectly fine then! I can never tell them apart…With all this communist plague…”

“Don’t worry, things will brighten, I’m sure of it. Speaking of which, you can call me Jin.”

“Pronounced like ‘gin’ from ‘Origin?’”

Lee (Jin?) smiled, “Perfect.”

Richard glanced at Mark’s direction, who had been quiet ever since Haley got locked in. “Awfully shy, aren’t you?” Mark looked at him. “At least tell me your name, boy.”

He said coldly, “Marek. And I’m sorry. I just lost my sister…she was my twin.”

Richard placed his hand on his shoulder, “Things happen. As much as I want to lament for my wife, I have to stay strong. Especially you have to realize this. After all, you have a lovely girl in your care now.” I blushed a little, but I grew uneasy, remembering if I was a guy…Haley would be here with us.

It’s my fault she’s gone.

Things hadn’t really changed much for as long as I could remember. Richard died soon after we arrived, for better or worst on my part. Things did get a lot quieter though, especially between me and Mark. Which reminds me…about that conversation.

Mark asked me randomly as I scavenged for trash, “What do you think’s happening to my sister?” I forced my head down, surpressing any lingering tears that were going to burst out. Haley began haunting my mind, infecting my thoughts with the guilt I felt towards her.

I replied hesitantly, “What do you mean?”

“You were experimented on, weren’t you?” I shook my head. “Oh…Nevermind then.” He went towards the opposite direction from where I stood, immediately stopping. He clenched his fist, “If only I were stronger…”

I couldn’t help but mutter, “If only I was a man…” Mark’s ears seemed to perk up like that of a dog.

“What do you mean?”

“If I wasn’t a girl, I wouldn’t have been so weak at the time…” He looked at me now, staring at me head-on.

“You had just recovered from a year’s worth of self-inflicted pain through a coma. Do you honestly expect the escape to have gone any differently?” I looked down, trying not to deny the matter. “Arthur, you might be a girl, but you’re definitely a guy. What kind of a girl would have a thing for my sister?”

I informed, “A bisexual one?” His face turned red now, either out of laughter or out of anger. I couldn’t tell, but I wore a devilish smile, “Now that I think about it, I’m quite the type to be bisexual…Will you hold me in your—?” Mark put his hand over my mouth.

He mumbled, “Please…don’t do that...We may have become friends in about two seconds, given the circumstances behind the escape, but…” I broke free of his hold, and giggled.
“I’m just teasing. But it is strange how quickly we all accepted each other at the very end…”

“I helped!” Lee shouted from the distance, adding, “Did I mention I have that effect on people!?” Mark was still recovering from my ‘girl’ moment, while I laughed at Lee’s joke. For a moment, I thought I saw Haley in the distance, right behind Lee, but then she immediately disappeared.

Must have been my imagination…

After a few decades of boredom and hiding from World War II—I really wanted to enter the war. I hate the thought people being tortured—our family managed to get a plane towards America, the Land of Promise. Alex went through a lot of trouble getting all our information set. We all had to go by new identities in order to find a better hiding place from the White Coats.

Yes, they have been pursuing us over the years, I just chose not to go into detail about each encounter. Out of all of them, this was the most interesting, as they sent Experiment Subjects after us. There were about two of them: #54 and #56. They essentially had the power to explode themselves at will. Scientifically, I have not one clue as to how they achieve to release so much energy, but knowing the White Coats, there’s nothing to understand.

Anyhow, the four of us were in the planes to America, where we divided ourselves in each plane. Which happened to be two planes…on September 11th, 2001. These planes were on a collision with Twin Towers. And to make things even more troubling, #54 and #56 were on board each plane. Alex and I had to deal with #56, while Mark and Lee dealt with #54.

That day was a blur to me, but I remember what happened inside the burning towers perfectly:

I muttered in pain, “Not exactly the best landing…” I dropped Alex on the floor, away from any flames that began to sprout from the ground.”

Alex sighed, “You’re losing your touch, Arthur.”

“Give me a break! I just jumped out from a plane and managed to even land us somewhat safely!” I turned around, thinking, Lee, you better be alright, along with Mark.

Alex said, “Let’s get out of here, before, #56 shows up and goes off.”

“I’m surprised he didn’t blow up on us in the plane.”

“They run on a timer. Similar to that of a suicide bomber, but rather than through a clock, it’s through the electric pulses in their brains. Though, who knows wh—” I heard the opposite tower explode in a dreary roar. Please be alive… “That must mean #56 will be going off soon…but where..?” A figure lunged at him from the flames. #56.

Reflexively, I slammed my leg into #56’s head and sent him flying down through the floors one by one. That’s when another explosion occurred, and the second tower began to collapse. I covered Alex as best as I could, only to hear him say, “Arthur, I see you’re showing your colors as a woman to me right now.” If I could, I would have yelled at him, but it was true sadly. My once flat chest now had two small…that aside, the two of us got caved in.

It wasn’t until later we managed to break out of the debris, with the help of Lee and Mark. They apparently made it out before the explosion even went off, since Lee simply floated both Mark and himself on top of a different building. If I hadn’t sent any thoughts in his direction, he wouldn’t have been able to find us, leaving us at the mercy of the U.S., since we didn’t have any form of identification that wasn’t burnt to a crisp.

Mark sighed, “Let’s get out of here before rescue crews come on the spot.”

Alex agreed, “Couldn’t say it any better myself.”

Lee frowned, “I better not lift us up like you’re thinking Mark.” Mark grinned at him.

I suggested, “Mark, grab Lee, I’ll grab Alex, since I know Lee will look.” Lee stuck his tongue out.

“But it’d be nice if I got carried away by a girl instead of a man in a white coat…” I ignored his plight, picking up Alex and running off down the road. Mark followed me.

Alex stated, “Arthur, I need to know you’re full name this time. I don’t think Art will pass off this time, since the U.S. government is likely to increase their defenses and such against possible terrorism with our mishap with the White Coats new attempts to bring us in.” My eyes darkened, my pulse quickened, and my teeth gritted at the sound of his words. Why am I losing control over my name?

I muttered, “Artemis then.” My face felt flushed at this point, while Alex patted me.

“Don’t worry Art, we’re all going to have to change our names. I thought those names would be temporary, but I don’t think we can risk it now that the White Coats know our location.” For once, I thought he said something with emotion, until I saw how empty his face looked.

“Thanks. I guess I call you Lex now, huh?” He shrugged, as the four of us went into an alley. We ended up living in this alley for some time...and this is where we decided to become new people.

Alex became Lex.
Lee became Jin.
Mark became Marek.
I…am Artemis.
If only Haley were here...

It's the end of the chapter, but thank you for asking, I just realized how I just kind of abruptly end it. (Makes an edit) The last sentence shouldn't be so abrupt now, but the next chapter should help tie up that loose end.

Chapter Fifteen: A Trip to School. Ugh, what a snore-fest.

After the 9/11 tragedy that we lived through, things weren’t looking to well for us. Surprisingly, Lex (Yeah, we’re sticking by our new names. Jin really nailed it when he said how we deserve new names for having been ‘reborn’ as a different being. Art didn’t take it so well) was able to hack into the government and put in legal information for the four of us. We must have looked pretty silly as we all leaned towards a library computer.

“Feels like I’m working for the White Coats again,” Lex scoffed.

After that, we all had to start making a living somehow. It’s pretty obvious Lex got into the computer business quickly, despite his lack of a college degree. They were astounded as he started telling them about the holes in the network that allowed hacking. My head already hurts thinking about how complicated those conversations got.

Jin surprisingly became a baby-sitter. A famous one among the neighborhoods as well, with people saying, “It’s like he knows my children better than me!” Not really, but they might as well have, since he is a psychic. He was rolling in the big bucks though, especially when he took care the rich kids, who happened to have the best gaming systems. What a lucky bastard.

Art got into the cooking business. Ha-ha. I just remembered one conversation we had about it. I told Art, “Rolling in the big bucks with those tips, eh?” She was working as a waitress, hoping to actually cook a little at some point.

She asked, “What are you trying to tell me?” Things never got easier between us, I’ll admit that. Sure, we have our moments where we’re all buddy-buddy…but then…

“I’d imagine guys think you’re hot is all, so they would pay you—” Her eyes reddened for a moment, immediately grabbing me into the air and slamming me into the ground, crushing the surface. (We’re in the alley that we used to live in, heads up) I coughed, “Holy shit, you’re strong.” I gotta say, I’m a tank at this point, having to deal with Art and being created from her—his blood and all. What Art had just done to me probably left a few scratches and bruises at most.

Luckily, he stopped, retreating against the wall, apologizing, “I’m deeply sorry, I didn’t know what came over me…”
I spat a little blood, asking, “It’s Haley, isn’t it?” Art nodded…and that’s about it. Art sure…was traumatized from what happened. I was able to finally get over it with Richard’s advice. But, I sometimes notice how quiet I’ve become. I remember how obnoxious I could have been in that white place me and my sister thought could be home. It’s strange…how much has happened since we left that White Hell.

But uh, yeah. She’s a waitress for the time being, while I get to have fun making weapons. I got a job as a blacksmith apprentice, and I have to say, this might be the only thing I like to learn about. Moby Dick literally had me drooling all over the book every time I tried picking it up, and I wasn’t all that great in Math either. But whatever, that’s all past me…for now.

After a few years, we were already living it big. It helped since Art didn’t really eat anything and us guys being able to starve for long periods. Cleaning wasn’t really big on the list for me, since I ended up being covered in soot by the end of the work day; my boss even admitted he never washes up. Not to mention we didn’t have to buy clothes twenty-four-seven, except for Jin, but he kept it to a limited size.

We lived in an apartment sometime, too. Right around when Art got to do some cooking at work, when some chefs got sick. Sucks for them, but Art learned some amazing, cheap recipes. Ha-ha. At this rate, I’ll probably sound like the greediest man in the world. But I am serious on her cooking. She’s absolut-I mean…he. Gah, I can’t get that gender confusion out of my head. Especially that one time he seduced me like that.

…We also moved out in the middle of the summer of 2010. Boss was a little upset at the news that I was leaving, but it happens. Things come and go from life, right? Last thing he told me was, “Ye’ be’er kep blacksmi’in’, boy. (He’s Scotish, how cool is that?) Ye’ have a lo’ of talen’ that outta no’ be was’ed.”

Texas. Austin, Texas at that. Neat city, with the smell of BBQ lingering from your neighbors backyard and everything. It’s also good weather for me to enjoy the blistering heat from the anvil I purchased for our new home.

The ride there was awfully boring though. We were going across the country in a gray Cherokee. Yeah, road-trips are a blast…when everyone’s not busy with what they’re doing. Art was reading books as usual—actually, not even a book—he was reading a dictionary and had an encyclopedia handy in case he finished early. Jin read what must have been a mail-bag’s worth of letters from all the children he’s tooken care of. He sniffled, “How I’m so loved…” I scoffed for obvious reasons.

Lex being the emotionless ragdoll he was, let me be the navigator. “Yep, keep going down that highway for…meh, I don’t know. All the way?” I swear, I wanted to just jump out the car and run all the way to Austin, Texas. At least I would be doing something.
Somehow, I was able to restrain myself the entire trip, and we arrived in our normal home, in a normal neighborhood, along the edge of the normal street.

Lex suggested, “Could use some re-decorating.” At least he had some taste. Jin laughed.

I agreed, “Dibs on making a basement for smithing.”

Jin smiled, “Guess I’ll work on the house?”

Lex added, “I’ll help…after I answer this text from work. How I don’t understand the gimmick behind texting.” Only Lex got to keep his job, and he’ll be doing his work over…you guessed it, a computer.

Art sighed, “I’ll try getting us signed up for school then.” My head cocked itself.

Almost reflexively, I complain, “But aren’t we all too old for school?” That’s when it hit me. Over the past, what? Five decades? Yeah, something like that…none of us looked any different. Except our hair, which still grows somehow. I mean, even Jin had hair similar to japanese rock star’s hair! I remember when he used to look like a monk. (But he still does meditate from time to time)
Jin wondered, “Huh, I never really thought about that…good thing we migrated around a lot!” I sighed, as he completely missed my point.

Lex explained, “It’s Art’s blood. All experiments created past Art have been infused with his blood, which slows down all aging processes, while doubling regeneration.”
Art muttered, “Glad to hear that. Now can I just sign us up for school? I don’t want to stick out anymore and just be able to blend in with the crowds. That’s the safest way to avoid the White Coats.” Something seemed to bother her…I mean, him greatly. Gah, why can’t I stop that stupid gender confu—
Jin nudged me. Go with Art.
I blinked for a moment, realizing that thought sounded like Jin. I replied, Jin? Since we did you—?
Just do it. Somethings deeply upsetting him.

What is?

I can’t tell, Art’s getting better at blocking me out…I mean, hiding his thoughts.

Even the psychic has his weaknesses. He elbowed me this time, and I said, “Art, I’ll go with you. You know, just in case some White Coats sent another Experiment Subject our way.”

Art looked at me with curiousity to my intentions, replying, “If that’ll bring you to ease. Let me just change to something less revealing. I hate it when I go to public like this.” She—He wore a black tank-top, which revealed two small you-know-whats. He says he only wears them because they feel comfortable.

Of course, I laughed, “But you’ve gone out in public like that before when you had to work.”

When I had to work,” he emphasized. “It’ll be quick, I promise.” He grabbed one of our suitcases and ran into the house.I couldn’t help but stare at her…I mean, him…Shit.

Why is it so hard for me to call Art a guy?

“That wasn’t too bad,” Art reassured me as we walked out of our new school, James Bowie High School. “It looked really nice…despite what I’ve read about it being supposedly built to be a jail at first.” Sounds about right.

“I can’t believe you’re making us attend school. Especially since you’re probably the smartest one out of all of us.” My stomach growled at me. I realized I hadn’t eaten anything since we left New York.

“Come on, let’s head somewhere to eat before you’re tempted to eat me,” joked Art. He began heading down towards a Sonic we passed by getting here on foot. He insisted we couldn’t drive since it’s against the law, but I’d have a right mind to just ignore her. Him.

I sighed, having said this before, “Just because I eat meat raw doesn’t mean I’ll eat anyone!”

“You do realize that there’s bad chemicals in—”

I retorted, “Yeah, yeah, like there’s enough bad chemicals in me, I don’t think I’ll die since I have been pumped with—” I hesitated, thinking I’d spark some bad memories for Art. “Gah, whatever. Let me just enjoy my meal when we get there.”

Art chimed, “Fine~”

Surprisingly, I did enjoy my meal, despite my hatred for some fast food joints. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with some fries and lemonade (I get cooky when I drink anything carbonated) while Art had a strawberry smoothie. I scarfed my entire meal down before Art could even pay the waitress.

Art apologized, “Sorry about my little brother, he’s just trying to make me look like an idiot for bringing him out for once.” I glared at him while I sipped at my lemonade.

The waitress laughed, “Ha-ha, you don’t have to tell me twice. Glad he’s already left off for college.”

“How I can’t wait for that day to come…” I groaned, while the two girls (whatever, guy/girl) giggled at me.

I informed, “I think I’ll leave you two to gossip. Have fun.” Before I was out of sight, I heard in the distance how that waitress thought I was hot. Good hearing rocks. I couldn’t help but smile as I kept going down the road.

Some time must have gone by, as night-time came in without any warning. I wondered if Jin and Lex were worried about me and Art not being home on time at all. The sky looked astonishing, though.

I mean, I couldn’t help but just stare at the moon that floated over the world. Back in New York, the buildings sometimes blocked it from view. But man, I just wanted to reach my arm out into the sky and just grab the moon. At least, when there’s peace and tranquility. Someone was crying and sniffling in the distance from where I walked, and I could only hear it getting louder and louder. That’s when I realized it was Art.

Right when I turned around, he latched onto me, not wanting to let go and just crying into my shoulder. Awkwardly, I hugged him back. He cried, “She thinks I’m a lesbian.”

Idiotically, I say, “Huh?”

“I kissed her and she kissed back and then we got closer and she—” Art retreated from me, hiding his chest with his arms. He looked so horrible and so confused…and so much like a girl. He wailed, “God, I even betrayed Haley’s love.”

“Hey, stop it.” Art looked at me with her blue eyes that glistened with tears under the moonlight. “It doesn’t matter what that waitress said. She doesn’t know who you are. Anyone who’s normal would have done the same thing.” Art got stung by my words, but I growled, “But we’re not normal! So no one will be able to understand us. All we have is each other. That’s all that matters; not what others have to say.” I held Art in a warm embrace now, and her cries softened.

She eventually breathed, “I must look wretched right now.”

I smiled, “Nah, you still look like you do on your good days.”

“…Your sister is really lucky to have you as a brother.”

“Heh, I guess. I’m just waiting for the day we can get her out, but we still have a lot to do.” I broke our embrace, and sat along the sidewalk.

Art sat beside me, adding with a sniffle, “I wish I had a brother like you, or at least, a portion like you. By blood that is!” I chuckled a little, and Art frowned, “I'm sorry if that came out the wrong way. I can be such a girl at times..."

I grinned, “I’m starting to get used to you, you know?” She looked at me with confusion, but I replied, “You’re so much like a guy…but you also so much like a girl…In good ways, I mean. You get to know what it’s like to be in both worlds. You know how hard it is to be a guy, and how hard it is to be a girl. You see what I’m saying, right?”

“I suppose. But I wouldn’t call it a good thing. It only bothers me and others from what I can tell from today…”

“It’s a full moon tonight.” I really don’t know why I said that, but I just wanted to change the topic.

Art blinked, “Feels like I haven’t seen one for years now.”

I groaned, “Tell me about it. Too many buildings and clouds and what-not.”

“Heh-heh, yeah.” Art got up, no longer sniffling or crying, I should add. “We should probably head back home.”

“I think Lex and Jin aren’t too worried.” Boy, was I wrong when we got home…

Chapter Sixteen: Why is this happening? I can’t be a girl…

Jin demanded, “What did you two do while you went off to school!? I will breach your minds without your permissions if you don’t tell me now!”

Marek complained, “Since when did you become such a nag?”

I reminded him, “He can’t hear you. Remember how mindless you are when talking out of reflex?”

Jin gasped, “All I’m trying to do is being a caring parent is all!” Marek looked at him with a funny look spreading on his face. “I am not going to be Lex’s wife!” Jin tried punching Marek, only to get pinned to the ground.

I mumbled, “Does anything ever change?”

Lex came in the room, “Well, now that you’re here, tell us what you think about the living room?” Wood flooring looks much better than the carpet this house had, and the plasma TV is a nice touch. Ooo, couches and glass coffee table. Very exquisite. I adore the plants we set up on the sides.

“It’s wonderful!” I couldn’t help but cheer, excited that our new living space was going to be a great one.

Jin cried, “Mercy! I was only messing Marek! Ah, damn, that’s a strong grip you have!” Marek let go of Jin, while Jin exclaimed, “Oh, I almost forgot the last edition!” He ran out of the room, heading upstairs.

I commented, “He’s awfully resembling a squirrel these days.”

Lex agreed, “It’s those children, I bet.”

Marek said, “He does reads mind…God knows what’s in their heads.”

Jin wore a wide grin as he held on Xbox 360 in his hands with a Call of Duty game on top. I couldn’t tell which one it was, as Jin smiled, “Ready to do some Call of Duty!”

I mocked, “I can’t believe you’re actually becoming a victim to video games, of all things! You are an—”

Lex interrupted, “I’ll have a go at it.”

Marek shouted, “Hell yeah! I’m in!” Before I knew it, they all were already duking it out and intent on killing off each other. I sighed as I began heading towards the patio, feeling I was the only one aware of the danger we face every day.

I couldn’t help but smile, “The moon does look nice tonight.”

“Don’t you mean ‘lovely?’” My heart froze as her words stabbed me from behind.

“I must be hearing things...”

“Why, because I got left behind?” toothed Haley. She looked so different now. Her crystal blue eyes had become a sea green tinted with red. Her silvery-blonde hair that flowed so smoothly now became stained with black and looked like the mane of a beast. I couldn’t have recognized if her she hadn’t spoken in that frail voice of hers.

“How did you get out?” I was breathing heavily at this point, not believing this girl could be Haley.

“How did the other Experiment Subjects get out?” Chills ran down my back, something I hadn’t felt since I was reborn into Experiment Subject #13, back when Richard was alive.

“So you’re here to capture us..?”

“Not really, but that’s what I’m supposed to be doing. Instead, I’ll just tell you that my partner’s entering in from the front.” Her voice turned cold as she spoke, “Oh…and about that girl you kissed. I see you’ve gotten over me?” My hands clenched themselves as her sinister eyes killed me. “I wonder if you cried because she found out you were a girl, or because you’re tired of being a guy?”

I choked, “What are you saying?”

She sneered, “I saw you and my brother. How you went to him. Guys don’t do that. Only a pathetic girl does that. For instance, someone like me before my eyes were opened.” My heart couldn’t take it anymore.

“Tell me what kind of guy looks like this then!”

“The special kind. The Experiment Subject kind. We’re special, aren’t we?”

“Please, be quiet.”

“Already trying to get rid of me from your life a second time? I can’t believe I loved you.” My heart raced faster than ever.

“What’s happened to you..?”

A devilish smile ran across her face. “I’m becoming my own kind of person. I don’t need to pretend to be human. After all, my father was human, and he didn’t stand a chance.”

I gritted my teeth, as my blood began curling within me. “What happened to the old you?”

“Isn’t it obvious? You killed her, when you stopped loving her, and started becoming her shadow.” She began walking towards the yard, going past me. Tears ran down my face now. “Keep crying. Girls cry, right? Not sure about guys though.”

I screamed, “Shut up!” She was gone though. She vanished into the darkness. I muttered as I fell to the grass she walked on, “I am a guy. I AM a guy.”

“Art!? You alright?” Marek came outside, immediately helping me back. “What’s wrong!?”

Immediately on the fly, I lied, “My blood-lust is acting up.” To be honest, it actually was, since I knew an intruder was coming and after what Haley said to me. “Someone’s coming.” Marek’s ears perked up like they always do when he tries hearing something in the distance.

He asked, “How did you know?”

“My blood-lust. Agh…” Now that was a lie, except for the pain. A banging could be heard on the other side of the house. Instinctively, I shoved Marek out of the way while I went towards the front door that Lex opened up. A man in armor bashed the door open with his shield and made a strike at Lex. I had come just in time to stop the strike with the palms of my hands.

Lex said, “Oh, thank you Art.” He went back into the living room despite the blood that dripped from my palms. Now my blood-lust really acted up, now that I was in pain.

Marek yelled, “Art, don’t!” I disarmed the knight’s blade and immediately stabbed it in a small sliver on his side.

The man yelped, “I surrender!” But it was too late for him. I forced the blade across his entire body and stabbed the tip against his head several times. Marek somehow restrained me and I began to calm down. Jin apparently was asleep at the time, so he couldn’t tell us anything before the knight entered. Lex began peeling off his armor, revealing nothing but skin and bones.

Lex sighed, “The poor creature. He was a failure, only able to go on with the help technological help.” He pointed towards several black boxes along the rims of his arms and legs. “They most likely instilled him with adrenaline over short intervals through those machines. Just to keep him standing.” My heart ached, realizing he could have had a second chance with us.

I murmured under my breathe, “I’m sorry for having lost control guys…” Haley hit my mind at that point, and I thought, great, now I have to deal with Jin.
I stared at Jin, waiting for him to say something. Jin eventually looked at me, asking, “What?” Am I blocking my thoughts? “Art, you in one piece there?”

“Yeah, I suppose.” I must have been really lucky…or unlucky to have my thoughts be blocked off right now.

Marek pointed, “Your hands.” They began to already start healing, but I knew it’d be a week for them to fully heal away the scars. “Want me to get that bandaged up?”

“Uh…” Haley’s words entoxicated my mind. “I’ll be fine.” Obviously, Marek didn’t expect a no for an answer, but he just shrugged it off. Lex and Jin were weary of my behavior, which I distracted them with, “We need weapons. I can’t take a blow like that every time someone’s about to get killed.” I looked at Lex, who simply coughed.

“Guess I’ll get working on that, just need to set up my forge and get some materials.” Marek took off his shirt, causing me to give him an odd look. “What? I’m not going to let this shirt get dirty to the point where its beyond cleanable.” His abs had become a four pack since last time I saw him with his shirt off, if ever. Haley reappeared in my mind. "I saw you and my brother. "

“It’s nothing, I’m just…out of it.”

Haley…
Who are you?
Better yet…
Am I actually acting…like a girl?

Chapter Seventeen: A Little Break One month left before Hell—I mean, school.

I moaned, “Okay Jin, what’s so important that you had to make me leave my forge, take a shower, and then wait in the car for about an hour with everyone doing their own thing like usual and leave me in boredom!?”

Jin groaned, “Ugh, fine, I’ll ruin the surprise then. Check the back.” I did. “Well?” I pulled out a skateboard, some roller blades, a scooter, and a bike. And some helmets, of course.

“Wait, did you just hear me, Jin?” He didn’t reply.

Lex smiled, “Must have been how you’ve been thinking about that list you came up with on the spot.”

Ignoring Lex, I returned to what I was getting at. Is that it?

Jin shrugged, “Just about.” I sighed, as I sat by Art while Jin sat in shotguns since he knew the way. Art was reading a book named Twilight. She got on the final pages of the book, only to roll down the window.

I hummed, “Hmmmm?”

Art cursed, “Garbage is all.” She tossed the book outside, where it fell on the side of the road.

I asked, “What’s it about?”

“Bloody vampires. I thought it’d be an interesting read since the vampire family within the book has a case similar to our family with living for about half a century. I honestly feel more depressed about our life now that I’ve read it. And don’t get me started on the amount of angst the main character has as well.” I laughed a little at the thought.

“What genre is it?”

“Romance, of all things.” How’s Art holding out?
Jin replied, Like I’ve said, I can’t enter his mind anymore. I think it’s naturally become resistant since it’s cram-full of information.
I sighed, “Don’t worry about Haley. We’ll get her back.” I think that only made her worry even more.

Lex stated, “We’re here.”

“Can I add something else in that list?” I glared at Jin for having made us head to a junkyard.

Jin boasted, “Let’s have some fun now, shall we!? The bike’s mine!”

I whispered to Art, “He’s still in the kid phase.”

Art whimpered almost, “I suppose.” I frowned, immediately grabbing the skateboard.

“I guess it doesn’t hurt to be a kid from time to time though.”

“What do you m—” I shoved her a few feet away from me and dashed off with the skateboard. I can’t tell if I was dying of laughter or fear, but that’s when I began skateboard-ing past the heaps of trash. Oddly enough, I was pretty decent at it, but it did get a little too bumpy for me at times.

That’s when I could hear a furious hiss come from behind, noticing Art literally going at me full speed in her roller-blades. She looked really angry, but I couldn’t help but stick my tongue out at her. That’s when she really chased me down, jumping over any piles of trash that I maneuvered around. I exclaimed, “Wow, you’re pretty good at this already, Art!” A mountain of trash was right up ahead, and I smiled at her, “Race you to the top!”

I grabbed the toe of my skateboard, hopping head on into the mountain and forcing my momentum to go upwards so I could reach the top. Once I landed on the remains of a broken TV, I flew up like I predicted, landing close to the top. I almost thought I would have won, until Art grabbed a long pipe off the ground, throwing it right over my head while she immediately grinded on it to reach the top. She delighted, “I win.” I frowned, but then she kicked some trash off the mountain which landed flat on my head, causing me to fall to the bottom. “And that’s for shoving me into that pile of trash!”

As I spit out a mouthful of rotten food, which wasn’t too bad, Jin shouted, “Look at me guys! E.T. phone home!” He was riding his bike in the sky, obviously with the help of his psychic abilities. I threw a piece of trash directly at him, only for him to catch it and smile, “Someone forgot I can read their mind.”

Lex finally came into view, riding his scooter in calm, leisurely manner. He stated, “I fail to see the humor involved behind riding these instruments of transportation.”

“That makes two of us.” I shifted my head towards Art direction, seeing a man hold a knife directly at her neck.

Art sighed, “Not bad catching me. Dare I ask what’s your number?”

“Experiment Subject #60. You’re coming back with us, all of you. Unless you want to see #13 die right—” Art instantly grabbed #60’s knife and tripped him off the mountain, kicking off a fridge in his direction. It smashed him into a pancake by the sound it made.

I groaned, “Art, you know what we told you before. We’re trying to save the other Experiments, not kill them.”

Jin entered my mind, He—or she, as you’ve recently been calling Art—knows, which is why she doesn’t understand why it was so easy to kill him. I may not be able to read her mind completely, but I can still get a sense on her feelings. Wait. I think I hear him.
Art screamed, “Jin, duck!” She threw a knife right at Jin, who barely got nicked by the knife’s edge, but was truly aimed for #60, who somehow floated directly behind Jin and his bicycle.

#60 faltered as the knife plunged into his shoulder, hardly fazed by the knife, “Damnit. How did you—”

“You’re a psychic, but unlike my friend there, you're not able to read minds. Instead, you’re able to implant thoughts into our minds and make us believe you’re not there, giving off your ‘appearance’ act.”

“But you haven’t even met me for more than a minu—”

Lex raised his hand, informing, “You’re dealing with someone with a high level of understanding and learning, #60. But I suppose I’ve helped Art greatly by giving her…I mean…” Art huffed as Lex continued, “By giving him basic information on what to expect from the Experiment Subjects abilities, such as enhanced traits in both mind and body.”

#60 barked, “Just shut up, I’m going to capture all of you anyways.” That’s when I felt a nerve pop. I jumped high into the air, slamming my skateboard across his chest. I could hear a rib or two break as I kept forcing it into him.

I muttered as he was about to black out, “Do you really want to bring us back into that damn place, so we can all live a life we never chose ourselves?” I caught him as the two of us fell back down to the ground. Everyone gathered around me, looking down at #60.

Art remarked, “Least I wasn’t the one who knocked him out.” I punched her in the shoulder, only to see her pissed off face and get punched right where it hurts for a guy. And then we went back home with two unconscious bodies in the trunk, one of them being #60 and the other was me.
